Coach Ortega is entering his 9th year as the Recruiting Coordinator & Director of Baseball Operations for the New England Scorpions. In his time as director, Ortega has had over 100 players committed to various Colleges & Universities across the country (Notre Dame, Houston, USF, Harvard, UCONN, UAB, JMU & more). He also had former pitcher, Ben Sears, selected in the 2022 MLB Draft to the Kansas City Royals.
Ortega has led his teams to championship wins, such as Perfect Game (FL) and a #1 Regional Rank through Perfect Game. He has also had teams ranked Top 100 in the country through Perfect Game.
Prior to Ortega becoming the Director of Baseball Operations, he served as an assistant coach at the Community College of Rhode Island. At CCRI he served as their national recruiting coordinator / hitting & infielders coach. He helped the Knights finish second in the country in hitting and third in the country in fielding percentage. It was the highest ranking in CCRI Knights history. Ortega also assisted at the University of Rhode Island with camps & showcases.
