Coach Ortega is entering his 7th year as the Director of Baseball Operations for the New England Scorpions.  In his time as director, Ortega has had over 60+ players committed to various Colleges / Universities across the country ( Notre Dame, Houston, USF, Harvard, UCONN, UAB & more).

Coach Ortega is entering his 7th year as the Director of Baseball Operations for the New England Scorpions.  In his time as director, Ortega has had over 60+ players committed to various Colleges / Universities across the country ( Notre Dame, Houston, USF, Harvard, UCONN, UAB & more).  

Ortega has led his teams to championship wins, such as Perfect Game (FL), and a #1 Regional Rank through Perfect Game.  His current 17U team placed 124th nationally last season.  

Prior to Ortega becoming the Director of Baseball Operations, he served as an assistant coach at the Community College of Rhode Island.  At CCRI he served as their national recruiting coordinator / hitting & infielders coach. He helped the Knights finish second in the country in hitting and third in the country in fielding percentage.  It was the highest ranking in CCRI Knights history.  Ortega also assisted at the University of Rhode Island with camps & showcases.

Joseph Casalino

Joe Casalino runs our Scorpions Youth AAU program (9U-14U).  He was the pitchers/catchers coach on two RI State Middle School Baseball Championship teams, a 12U NEAAU Super Division Championship team, and a 13U NEAAU Diamond Division Championship team.  Dr. Joe is also a practicing chiropractor with more than 30 years experience evaluating and treating thousands of athletes of all ages. He has clinics in Barrington, Providence, Fall River and New Bedford.

James Sweeney

James Sweeney brings 10 years of experience coaching ages 8-18 in many different levels of competition.  Sweeney has been involved with Cranston Western Little League coaching all three seasons, including all-stars.  He has facilitated dozens of camps and clinics for ages 8-12 for the last decade.  Along with his background at the youth level, Coach Sweeney has coached at the Freshman, Junior Varsity, and Varsity levels of Rhode Island high school baseball.  He was a part of the La Salle Academy program from 2016-2018, Cranston East in 2019, and is currently an assistant varsity coach at Cranston West.  Coach Sweeney is also the Head Coach of the 13U Scorpions AAU team.
