Alumni Spotlight #2

With college baseball underway, we are proud to bring back our “Alumni Spotlight” series.
This series highlights standout performances from our former New England Scorpions players at their current colleges and universities.

In the past six years, we have had 70 New England Scorpions players commit to play college baseball. These players attend over 40 institutions across the country. We are proud of every player and look forward to following their hard work each week.

This week‘s spotlight belongs to three former players:


1. Ryan Andrade
- RHP: University of Rhode Island (Fr.)

*** Ryan Andrade is a 2021 graduate from Middletown HS. Andrade played 8 years with the NE Scorps and committed to the University of Rhode Island through the Scorpions program. Ryan has made four appearances for the Rams during his freshman campaign. Two of his appearances were against Auburn & Tennessee, where he combined for a stat line of 7IP-1H-0R-3BB-4K. After the Tennessee appearance, Andrade was named the Friday night starter for the Rams and has a season stat line of 13IP-4H-1ER-8BB-14K.  His ERA is 0.69 and he has been consistently sitting 91-93mph.

Prior to the season, Ryan received a full-time summer contract to pitch for the Wareham Gatemen, who compete in the Cape Cod League.


2.  Jarrad Grossguth
- 3B: Rhode Island College (Sr.)

*** Jarrad Grossguth is a 2018 graduate from Coventry HS. Grossguth played 2 years with the NE Scorps and committed to the Community College of Rhode Island through the Scorpions program. Jarrad currently plays for the Rhode Island College Anchormen and has appeared in 12 games this season. He has 45 at bats on the season and is batting .333 with 15 Hits - 3 Home Runs - 15 RBI - 5 Doubles - 18 Runs.


3.  Josh Ferreira
- RHP / 3B: Ohio Wesleyan (Fr.)

*** Josh Ferreira is a 2021 graduate from Portsmouth Abbey. Ferreira played 7 years with the NE Scorps and committed to Ohio Wesleyan University through the Scorpions program. Josh has made three appearances for the Battling Bishops during his freshman campaign. He received his first collegiate win in his first outing with a stat line of 4IP-2H-0ER-2BB-3K. This season, Josh has a pitching stat line of 13IP-6ER-5BB-7K.
